FAQ

Getting Started

Do you charge for initial consultations?

Our initial 30-minute consultation is complimentary. During this call, we’ll discuss your design vision, project scope, timeline, and determine which of our services best fits your needs.

For comprehensive projects (whole-home refreshes, major renovations, or moves), all of our full-service projects begin with our Strategic Design Assessment ($3,500). This two-meeting process includes a comprehensive walk-through of your home (Meeting One) and review of your detailed written report with room-by-room recommendations and curated inspiration (Meeting Two). The Strategic Design Assessment is also available as a standalone service for homeowners who want professional guidance regarding their home’s design potential to implement independently or work with contractors.

For targeted guidance, our Designer on Demand service ($2,750) provides a focused 3-hour consultation with a written action plan delivered within two business days.

For window treatments, we offer Custom Drapery & Shades consultations (launching January 2026) with a $1,250 consultation fee that’s credited toward your purchase when you proceed within 7 days.

What services do you offer?

We offer multiple ways to work together, depending on your project scope and needs:

Designer on Demand ($2,750)
A focused 3-hour in-home consultation providing expert guidance and a clear action plan. You’ll receive a comprehensive written summary within two business days. Perfect for homeowners who need professional direction but plan to implement on their own. You can book your session here.

Custom Window Treatments (Launching January 2026)
Complete custom drapery and shades from in-home consultation through professional installation. Consultation investment of $1,250 is fully credited toward your window treatment purchase when you move forward within 7 days.

Full-Service Interior Design
Comprehensive design and implementation for whole-home and multi-room projects. All of our full-service projects begin with our Strategic Design Assessment ($3,500)—a comprehensive whole-home analysis delivered through two in-depth meetings and a detailed written report with room-by-room recommendations and curated inspiration. This establishes vision and scope before moving into design development and implementation. Learn more here.

The Strategic Design Assessment is also available as a standalone service for homeowners planning major projects who want professional guidance to work with contractors or implement independently. Available by complimentary consultation.

Where do you work?

We’re based in McLean, Virginia, and serve the greater DC Metro area including Great Falls, Alexandria, Fort Hunt, Potomac, Rockville, Kensington, and surrounding communities.

For our Designer on Demand and Custom Window Treatment services, we work within a 30-mile radius of McLean. For full-service projects, we’re happy to discuss your specific location during our complimentary consultation.

Do you have a project minimum?

Yes. Our full-service interior design projects require meaningful investment in both design fees and implementation.

Design fees include the Strategic Design Assessment ($3,500) plus Design Concept Development (fees vary based on project scope and complexity).

Implementation investment depends on your project scope and design selections. Most of our full-service clients are planning comprehensive refreshes, major renovations, or whole-home transformations.

During your complimentary consultation, we’ll discuss your vision, timeline, and budget to determine if full-service design is the right fit—or if one of our other services better serves your needs.

For clients not ready for full-service design:

Designer on Demand ($2,750) provides targeted guidance you can implement yourself
Strategic Design Assessment ($3,500) delivers a comprehensive design roadmap for future implementation

How do you structure your fees?

Our fee structure varies by service type:

Designer on Demand (Launching January 2026)
Flat investment of $2,750 for a 3-hour in-home consultation and written action plan delivered within two business days.

Custom Window Treatments (Launching January 2026)
$1,250 consultation fee, fully credited toward your window treatment purchase when you proceed within 7 days. Window treatments are priced per window based on size, fabric selection, and hardware specifications.

Full-Service Interior Design – We use a phased approach:

Phase 1: Strategic Design Assessment ($3,500)
Comprehensive whole-home analysis delivered through two meetings and a detailed written report.

Phase 2: Design Concept Development (Variable)
Complete design concept developed through 4-5 collaborative sessions. Fee varies based on project scope and complexity.

Phase 3: Implementation (Variable)
Sourcing, project management, and installation. We require 80% of estimated implementation investment upfront, with remaining 20% due before installation as a true-up to actual costs.

This phased approach ensures natural decision points and complete transparency throughout the process.

The Design Process

What is your design process for full-service projects?

Our full-service design process is comprehensive and collaborative, and most projects begin with our Strategic Design Assessment to establish clear vision and scope.

Design Discovery Phase Once you engage us for full-service design, we begin our collaborative Design Discovery process—a series of 4-5 curated design sessions where we explore spatial planning, color palettes, textiles, lighting, and key design elements. These hands-on sessions ensure every decision aligns with your vision before we present your final Design Concept.

Design Development & Implementation After Design Concept approval, we move into sourcing, procurement, project management, and installation coordination. We handle all aspects of implementation, providing weekly written updates so you can witness your transformation without getting bogged down in details.

Final Installation & Styling We personally oversee final installation and styling, ensuring every detail is exactly right before revealing your completed space.

This thorough approach is what allows us to create interiors that don’t just look beautiful—they transform how it feels to live in your home.

How long does a typical project take?

Project timelines vary based on scope and complexity:

Designer on Demand: Immediate scheduling based on availability; written summary delivered within 2 business days

Custom Window Treatments (Launching January 2026): Immediate scheduling based on availability; most custom window treatments are fabricated and professionally installed within 4-6 weeks

Strategic Design Assessment: 2-3 weeks from booking to final report review

Full-Service Design: Most full-service projects complete within 5-6 months from design concept approval. Timelines can be affected by custom furnishings lead times (typically 10-16 weeks), product availability, and any architectural or construction work involved in your project.

How involved will I be in the full-service design process?

You’ll be involved in all major design decisions, but we handle the heavy lifting.

Your involvement includes:
–Initial discovery meetings to establish vision and preferences
–Design Concept review and approval
–Selection meetings where you choose from curated options we’ve pre-vetted
–Final walk-through and styling review

We handle:
–All research, sourcing, and vendor coordination
–Measurements, specifications, and technical details
–Scheduling deliveries and installations
–Problem-solving and project management
–Quality control and damage inspection

We provide weekly written updates so you’re always informed without being overwhelmed. Most clients appreciate that they can make the fun, essential decisions while we manage the complex logistics.

Do you work on single rooms or only whole homes?

We work on projects of all sizes, though our approach is always comprehensive.

Single Room Projects
Even when designing a single room, we consider how it connects to the rest of your home to ensure cohesive flow. Single-room projects can be full-service—most of our design projects start with focused scope and expand over time.

Multi-Room & Whole-Home Projects
We develop a comprehensive vision for the entire home—even if you’re implementing in phases—to ensure every space works together harmoniously.

Strategic Design Assessment
If you’re unsure of scope, our Strategic Design Assessment ($3,500) analyzes your entire home and helps you determine which areas to prioritize and project phasing based on your budget and goals.

Working Together

What’s your design style?

We don’t have a signature “look”—we have a signature approach.

What sets Pembrook Interiors apart is our belief that great design should change how you feel, not just how a space looks. We specialize in the sophisticated intersection of classical beauty and contemporary sensibility, creating environments that achieve that rare balance of elegance and warmth.

Our design philosophy centers on the art of thoughtful curation—composing interiors that feel both timeless and thoroughly current. We layer antiques, contemporary art, and bespoke furnishings to create environments that feel collected rather than contrived—spaces with the patina of time and the polish of intention.

We prefer to work collaboratively, beginning each project with the architecture, the environment, and your personal narrative. Whether your aesthetic leans traditional, contemporary, or eclectic, we create spaces that feel authentic to you—never overly styled or precious.

You can see examples of our work in our portfolio.

Do you work with my existing furniture?

Absolutely. In fact, we prefer it.

One of our specialties is incorporating beloved pieces you already own—whether they’re family heirlooms, recent purchases, or items with sentimental value—and building a cohesive design around them.

During our initial consultation, we’ll discuss which pieces you love, which you’re ready to replace, and how to bridge different styles and periods to create a harmonious whole.
